New issue of the Wendelstein Newsletter
Information about the Wendelstein 7-X fusion device
The Wendelstein 7-X Newsletter reports on current developments throughout the Wendelstein 7-X fusion experiment. The latest edition (13/2017) presents a survey of the modifications inside the plasma vessel to make the device fit for higher heating powers and longer pulses.
In preparation for the next operation phase of Wendelstein 7-X, which is scheduled to start in late summer of this year, the limiter structures inside the plasma vessel have been replaced by a test divertor and graphite tiles on the baffles and wall protection elements have been installed. This will allow the use of more heating power and longer plasma pulses.
The altogether 8000 graphite tiles had to meet narrow tolerances with respect to the lateral distance as well as the leading edges between the adjoining neighbors. More than half of the tiles had to be modified and brought into the precisely fitting form.
