For the Career Dialogue we invite people with different backgrounds who will initially tell about themselves, their career or their networks and will then answer your questions and engage in a dialogue with you. The purpose of the Career Dialogue is to provide insight into different career paths, to bring you in contact with people outside IPP and to enhance our networks in all directions - science, industry, entrepreneurship, science management.

Thomas Eich did earn a doctorate at the University of Düsseldorf/ Forschungszentrum Jülich in 2000, with a focus on power exhaust studies for limiter tokamaks. He then was active as one of the European principal researchers for heat flux physics in JET and ASDEX Upgrade in support of ITER. He acted as a JET, ASDEX Upgrade and European Task Force leader from 2007-2016. Additionally, from 2012-2023 Thomas Eich was University lecturer at the University of Ulm and group leader in the ASDEX Upgrade division (2017-2023). After 22 years in IPP Garching, Thomas Eich joined in 2023 Commonwealth Fusion Systems, a spin-off from MIT building the SPARC tokamak which is heading for Q>1 operation, as the lead of the divertor and boundary plasma physics group.
