  • Jens is a mechanical engineer and has been working in the field of nuclear fusion since 2008, starting with the Stellarator Wendelstein 7-X project and followed by the ITER Tokamak project in France, Cadarache, in the field of management and coordination of design, construction, and installation of large mechanical - fusion related - components in collaboration with industrial partners. He has experience in the field of nuclear fusion and large European and international projects. Until 2018 he worked at ITER as a Construction team leader, since 2018 he is Division Head Tokamak Assembly (Ex-Vessel Delivery & Assembly).

  • Sibylle Günter studied physics at Rostock University, Germany, where she completed her PhD in 1990. After an extended research stay in the USA, she became staff member at the Max-Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in 1996. In 2000, she was appointed Member of the Max Planck Society and director at IPP. Since 2001 she has been adjunct professor at Rostock University, since 2006 honorary professor at TU Munich. In 2011 she was appointed Scientific Director of IPP. Sibylle Günter is elected member of the National Academy of Science and Engineering of Germany (Acatech), of the Academia Europaea, of the Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina and full member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Science (SATW).

  • Dr. Aurelia Herrmann-Köck earned her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IPP and TUM in 2008, focusing on "Interface optimization of tungsten fiber reinforced copper for heat sink applications." Following her academic achievements, she embarked on a dynamic career journey, starting with roles in the Presidial Office of TUM and representing the Research Field Energy at the Helmholtz Association in Berlin. Later, she brought her expertise to Siemens in Munich, leveraging her background in science management, R&D, and executive consulting to drive innovation. Over a decade within Siemens' Technology department honed her strategic acumen, leading her to her current role as a Strategy Manager in the Siemens Business Unit "Smart Infrastructure." Here, she is shaping the future landscape of smart and sustainable buildings, electrification, and grids. Thomas Köck, Head of Application & Technology Expanded Graphite - After completing his PhD at IPP (TU Munich) in 2007, he moved to SGL Carbon. He started there as a development engineer in the central R&D department. After 5 years, he moved to the technology field of expanded graphite as group leader. Since 2017, he has been responsible for the natural graphite development area with the topics of sealing technology, electronic applications and battery technology (redox flow and fuel cells).

The Max Planck Society recommends that research data management and publication be made compatible with the FAIR principles. In this talk, we will present the MMD tools for metadata creation and the publication platform MetaStore available at MPCDF which purpose is to help researchers comply with these principles. [mehr]

  • Rodrigo studied mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic university of Madrid and the Technical University of Munich, specializing in energy technology and nuclear technology. He completed his doctorate at IPP in 2019 and received a European Engineering Grant to continue his work on hydrogen isotope erosion, transport and retention in first wall materials. Since 2022 he is working as a lab leader at W.L. Gore and Associates, in charge of GORE-TEX Footwear quality and R&D testing.

In addition, he works as a freelancer and supports academics in their personality, competence and career development. His received a training as a systemic coach.

She held leadership positions within the NGO sector for over 15 years, most recently at the Tönissteiner Kreis, the American Academy in Berlin, and the Robert Bosch Foundation. With a German-American background raised bilingually in New York and over 30 years of international experience she works in both languages.

  • Christopher Albert earned his doctorate in physics from Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) in 2017, focusing on Hamiltonian methods for effects of non-axisymmetric perturbations in fusion plasmas. From 2018 to 2021 he was working as a post-doc in an interdisciplinary project at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics. Subsequently, he returned to TU Graz for a tenure track professorship in 2021, heading the plasma physics group there. Apart from research in plasma physics, Dr. Albert applied his expertise in acoustics as a Junior Researcher at Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH between 2012 and 2014 and at Dr. Pfeiler GmbH Civil Engineering, where he worked on engineering acoustics and software development for measurement databases. The career dialogue will focus on a critical assessment on research across disciplines, the importance of building a professional network to promote scientific visibility, and how ideas and opportunities pop up by a combination of the right setting and sheer luck.

She has been teaching courses in landscape architecture and environmental planning at both American and German universities for the past forty years. At the Leibniz University in Hanover, she has taught and researched for 30 years. Moreover, she was a guest professor in the international Master of Landscape Architecture programme at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Bernburg and professor in the Bioregional Planning Programme at Utah State University, where she also offered courses in research skills and scientific writing, as well as communication and rhetoric.

Plagiarism and falsification of data by researchers have been in the news repeatedly over recent years. The internet allows knowledge to become a mobile and easily re-packaged good. Even though deliberate academic misconduct is not representative, good scientific practice presents a series of difficult questions, and nagging problems for researchers and accidental breaches can happen.   • Andreas Schulte, Gießen, studied philosophy and German philology in Heidelberg as well as journalism at the University of Hohenheim. He has been active in science management for over ten years, since 2010 as a research advisor at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. Here he is responsible for research funding and advice for researchers applying for third party funding. This includes both funding for individual research as well as acquisition and implementation of larger joint research projects. He focuses especially on the financial support for junior researchers.

  • Felix Warmer obtained his MSc in Physics at the Universität Leipzig, Germany, while carrying out his master thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald, Germany – the fusion research institute that is hosting the advanced stellarator Wendelstein 7-X. He continued to work there as a PhD being awarded “summa cum laude” by the Technische Universität Berlin in 2016. He then obtained a Feodor Lynen Research Grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which he carried out with the support from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science at the National Institute for Fusion Science in Japan. He then went back to work for the Max Planck Institute in Greifswald, first as a postdoctoral fellow and soon after as a permanent staff scientist. In 2022 he was appointed as a tenured Assistant Professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology. This was soon afterwards followed by a W2 appointment by the Max Planck Society and he is now leading a research group that works on Stellarator Reactor studies back at IPP in Greifswald.

  • Franziska Trischler, Freiburg, was born in the United States, moved to Germany in her early childhood and graduated at the University of Koblenz-Landau, majoring in Sprechwissenschaft [speech science and interpersonal communication] in 2009. She has been working as a freelance communication trainer for 12 years, giving individual lessons, workshops and seminars in the areas of rhetoric, recitation, voice training and interpersonal communication. She is also an academic staff member for speech and interpersonal communication at the Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg and has worked as a lecturer for various universities.
