After working in the field of biomedical fundamental research and application-oriented development he became self-employed with “brain4hire” in 2011. He has authored numerous scientific publications, has a long-standing experience in teaching science and is an experienced trainer on soft skills.

After completion of the thesis, personally defending it presents a new challenge for the doctoral candidate. For many, oral examinations are associated with nerves and worries about blackouts. However, they quickly lose their horror if systematic preparation is started in good time. [mehr]

Her fields of professional activities include academic teaching [literary and cultural studies], project management, personal and scientific advice, and training. She works primarily in the areas of interculturality, diversity, conflict coaching, leadership and team communication, time management and career counselling.

  • Andreas Schulte, Gießen, studied philosophy and German philology in Heidelberg as well as journalism at the University of Hohenheim. He has been active in science management for over ten years, since 2010 as a research advisor at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. Here he is responsible for research funding and advice for researchers applying for third party funding. This includes both funding for individual research as well as acquisition and implementation of larger joint research projects. He focuses especially on the financial support for junior researchers.

In light of limited public funding, the securing of sources of financial support – whether classic science-funding organisations, foundations or companies – is an important task, especially in the academic and non-profit sectors.   • Jacqueline von Saldern, Munich, is a trainer and career counselor since 2006 with a special focus on international mid-career and senior professionals in the fields of academia, public policy and non-profit. Her topics of expertise include career development, professional orientation, applications, competency profile, and networking as well as leadership, intercultural communication, and conflict management. Her special focus is thereby directed towards profiling and empowerment of women. She held leadership positions within the NGO sector for over 15 years, most recently at the Tönissteiner Kreis, the American Academy in Berlin, and the Robert Bosch Foundation. With a German-American background raised bilingually in New York and over 30 years of international experience she works in both languages.

27. Career Dialogue "Felix Warmer"

  • Vortragender: Felix Warmer
  • Felix Warmer obtained his MSc in Physics at the Universität Leipzig, Germany, while carrying out his master thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald, Germany – the fusion research institute that is hosting the advanced stellarator Wendelstein 7-X. He continued to work there as a PhD being awarded “summa cum laude” by the Technische Universität Berlin in 2016. He then obtained a Feodor Lynen Research Grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which he carried out with the support from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science at the National Institute for Fusion Science in Japan. He then went back to work for the Max Planck Institute in Greifswald, first as a postdoctoral fellow and soon after as a permanent staff scientist. In 2022 he was appointed as a tenured Assistant Professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology. This was soon afterwards followed by a W2 appointment by the Max Planck Society and he is now leading a research group that works on Stellarator Reactor studies back at IPP in Greifswald.

  • Franziska Trischler, Freiburg, was born in the United States, moved to Germany in her early childhood and graduated at the University of Koblenz-Landau, majoring in Sprechwissenschaft [speech science and interpersonal communication] in 2009. She has been working as a freelance communication trainer for 12 years, giving individual lessons, workshops and seminars in the areas of rhetoric, recitation, voice training and interpersonal communication. She is also an academic staff member for speech and interpersonal communication at the Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg and has worked as a lecturer for various universities.
