Guided tours at IPP

Visitors by appointment are most welcome to the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching and Greifswald. Guided tours are available from Monday to Friday.
We offer group tours; individuals can join a group.

Tours last approximately two hours and are free of charge. Please book your visit in good time by phone or in writing.
 


IPP Garching (near Munich)

Tours of the institute in Garching start with an introduction to the principles of fusion research. Then the ASDEX Upgrade fusion device, the pulse generators for powering the device as well as an exhibition on fusion research in the visitor centre can be visited.

Please note that tours of Wendelstein 7-X will not be possible during the operation phase starting in September 2024.

Despite the limited visiting opportunities, we are happy to offer you informative on-site presentations. These presentations will give you a comprehensive insight into our work and developments in the field of fusion research.

For those who prefer a tour, we have good news: Tours will be possible again in January 2025 and as of June 2025. Then, we look forward to showing you our facility in person again.
