On ASDEX Upgrade, the infrared thermography system allows to diagnose the divertor power load in the conventional, ITER-similar lower divertor as well as in the upgraded upper divertor for studies of alternative divertor concepts.

We are planning to upgrade the system by installing a further periscope system for an additional viewing geometry, upgrading the data acquisition system to be real time capable and implementing a fast camera to study disruptions and other transients.
