Fusion research worldwide
German fusion research has been part of a European research alliance since its beginnings, in which the fusion centers of the European Union and Switzerland are combined. It is coordinated and partially funded by Euratom in Brussels – the EU Directorate-General for Research.
The European consortium EUROfusion supports and funds fusion research activities in 26 EU member states under the Euratom program, while Switzerland, Norway and the United Kingdom contribute to the activities with their national fusion budgets.

In addition to the European fusion program, there are other major programs worldwide. In the ITER project, Europe, Japan, China, India, Russia, South Korea and the USA are working together on the preparation and construction of an experimental reactor. Fusion research is also being conducted in numerous other countries.
